Lakes of Nepal series - Gosaikunda
Gosainkunda is an alpine freshwater oligotrophic lake in Nepal's Langtang National Park. It is located at an elevation of 4,380m in Rasuwa district. The shimmering blue lake in the lap of mountains at such a height is definitely a piece of art.
Apart from its natural beauty, Gosainkunda is also famous for its religious significance. It is one of the holy sites for both Hindus and Buddhists, especially shamans. Thousands of pilgrims from around the country pay homage to this sacred lake by taking a dip in the lake during the festival of Janai Purnima despite freezing temperatures. Autumn is the best month for trekking in Gosainkunda as the weather is excellent, the temperature is moderate, and the days are clear giving you perfect views of captivating mountains.
One can take a bus from Kathmandu to Dhunche, which takes about 6 hours, and then trek to Gosaikunda. The trekking route is fairly easy and manageable.
